'The Dominican Order and the Teaching of the Sciences' - 2016 Autumn Evening Talks Series.

To celebrate the 800th anniversary of the foundation of the Dominican Order we will be holding a series of three evening talks this autumn. The talks will be in the Garden Room of St Albert's Catholic Chaplaincy, Edinburgh (entrance via George Square Lane) on Monday evenings starting at 7pm on 26 September, 3 October and 7 November 2016. .

The series will consider the Order's influence in this area. Dr Sara Parvis will chair the lectures. Dr Parvis is a Senior Lecturer in Early Church History at the School of Divinity, University of Edinburgh. The first talk will be given by Rev Dr John O'Connor OP on 26 September, entitled 'Making something out of "a whole lot of nothing'': the Dominican approach to teaching philosophy'. The second lecture, entitled 'Science before Galileo? Early Dominican Physics' , will be given by Rev Dr Peter Hunter O.P, on Monday 3 October 2016. The third and final lecture will be held on Monday 7 November 2016. The lecture entitled "God is not a thing!': Science and religion debates among young Catholics today', will be given by Michael O'Duffin, who is a member of the Glasgow Lay Dominicans. Admission is free but a donation of £5 would be welcomed from those who can afford it.
